January 2012


Tues., Jan. 10, 2012 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Mon., Jan. 9, 2012 - I perform on the Carson City Music Club's "Members & Friends Concert" at the Brewery Arts Center's Performance Hall at 7 p.m.. For part of the program I accompany trombonist C.J. Birch on Edward Llewellyn's "My Regards." At the end of the program, play a number of Dixieland pieces on piano and tuba with the Carson City Rascals.

Tues., Jan. 24, 2012 - Ninth Annual Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza at the Carson City Community Center, 7:30 p.m. - The concert, sponsored by the Carson High Jazz Band and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, is a benefit for the Carson High Jazz Band programs. The Extravaganza will include two big bands, a combo performance, and a grand finale combining the forces of both big bands.

Thurs., Jan. 26, 2012 - I perform on piano with Lee Warner's ad hoc jazz band for the Newcomers Club meeting at the Silver Legacy in Reno. We start performing at 12:45 p.m.

 

February 2012


Tues., Feb. 14, 2012 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee perform for Valentines Day - 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Sat., Feb. 18, 2012 - I perform on bass trombone with Rosebud's Dance Band at CVIC Hall in Minden, NV. It is for a "Centennial Celebration Dinner Dance." The doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner is at 6:00 p.m., and the band plays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Sun., Feb. 26, 2012 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony. We will present a concert, "Russian Treasures," at 4:00 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The concert features guest violinist Carla Trynchuk in a performance of Alexander Glazunov's Violin Concerto. The program, suitable for people of all ages, also includes "Russian March" by Strauss, "In the Steppes of Central Asia" by Borodin, and "Capriccio Italien" by Tchaikovsky. Pre-concert entertainment by Markleeville artist Russel Ketenjian begins at 3:00 p.m. in the lobby.

 

March 2012


Sun., March 11, 2012 - 3:00 p.m. - Victorian Fashion Show and Dance at the Nevada State Museum, Carson City. I perform on keyboard with the Silver Strings.

Tues., March 14, 2012 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under. The Mile High Jazz Band and vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by several poets and readers and guest vocalist June Joplin for a lively evening of big-band jazz music and poetry with a new twist. For "Potluck: A Smorgasbord of Poems and Big-Band Jazz," poets names will be drawn from a hat for each reading, followed by a big band tune.

The program will feature award-winning poets and readers Krista Lukas, Tracy McQuay, Wayne Carlson, Lee Warner, Terri Breeden, and Joe Crowley. For more information, call the Mile High Jazz Band at 775-883-4154, or visit the web site: MileHighJazz.com.

 

April 2012


Tues., April 10, 2012 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Sat., April 14, 2012 - I perform on tuba and bass trombone with the Ruby Mountain Symphony in Elko, NV, on its program at the Convention Center at 7:00 p.m.

Thurs., April 19, 2012 - I play piano with the Maytan Big Band for a clinic (workshop) at Sparks Middle School in Sparks, NV, starting at noon. Lee Warner is the organizer of this event.

Saturday, April 21, 2012 - I play piano with the Prison Hill Combo for a wine tasting event to benefit CCBAI (Carson City Band Assoc.), the parent support group for Carson High School music student. It's at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Sun., April 29, 2012 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony in a 4:00 p.m. concert ("Science and Wonder") at the Carson City Community Center. Our guest soloists is Stephen Caplan, oboe.
Dr. Caplan will be featured in "Concerto No. 2 in C for Oboe and Orchestra" by Sir William Herschel, the astronomer who discovered Uranus, but spent the first his first forty years as a musician. Dr. Caplan will also perform the beautiful and haunting "Oblivion" by the Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzola. The orchestra will perform "Polovtsian Dances" from the opera "Prince Igor" by Alexander Borodin. Borodin was a talented Russian chemist, as well as being one of "The Five" or "The Mighty Handful," a group of noted composers who met in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The orchestra will be joined on the program by the Carson Chamber Singers performing "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place" from "A German Requiem" by Johannes Brahms and "The Heavens are Telling" from "The Creation" by Franz Josef Haydn.
(Please note: Concert was originally scheduled for April 22, but changed to April 29 to allow the Community Center to present a multi-day event.)

 

May 2012


Sat., May 5, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. - I perform on tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra at CVIC Hall in Minden, NV.

Tues., May 8, 2012 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Thurs., May 5, 2012 - I perform with an ad hoc big band on piano in recital at Carpenter's Music World, Reno, NV, starting at 6:00 p.m.

Sat., May 12, 2012 - I play piano for a private 90th birthday party for Christine King at Glen Eagles Restaurant, Carson City, from noon to 3:00 p.m.

Wed., May 23, 2012 - I perform on piano with the Maytan Big Band in two shows at Gardnerville (NV) Elementary School, one at 1:45 p.m. and the other at 2:30 p.m.

 

June 2012


Sun., June 10, 2012 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony in a 4:00 p.m. "Pops Party" concert at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City. The concert theme is "Cowboys and Cowgirls," and Richard Elloyan is our special guest performer.

Tues., June 12, 2012 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. This is a "Jazz & Poetry" event, and the theme is "Animals." Our guest vocal soloist is Pat Esters. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Friday, June 22, 2012 - The Millennium Bugs play for a barbeque for the Mutual of Omaha Bank in Carson City from noon to 2:00 p.m.

Sat., June 23, 2012 - I perform on bass trombone with Rosebud's Dance Band at Dangberg Home Ranch Park, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. in a fundraiser for the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra.

 

July 2012


Mon., July 2, 2012, at 8:00 p.m., Bartley Ranch Reno - Reno Philhamonic Concert. I'm singing as part of the chorus (Carson Chamber Singers and Reno Philharmonic Chorus).

Wed., July 4, 2012 - I perform on tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra in Minden Park, starting at 12:30 p.m.

Wed., July 4, 2012, at 4:30 p.m., Sierra Philharmonic League's "Pops in the Park" - Reno Philhamonic Concert. I'm singing as part of the chorus (Carson Chamber Singers and Reno Philharmonic Chorus).

Sun., July 8, 2012 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony in an Artown concert at Trinity Episcopal Church in Reno at 5:00 p.m. The program, "Western Adventure," features organ soloist Michael Langham and oboe soloist Yumi Anthenien. The Symphony will play favorite cowboy tunes from movies, television, and opera. These range from "The Cowboys" Overture by John Williams to Buckaroo Holiday from "Rodeo" by Aaron Copland.

Tuesday, July 10, 2012 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. Our guest vocal soloist is Pat Esters. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Saturday, July 14, 2012 - The Mile High Jazz Band plays for the opening ceremonies (2:00 to 4:30 p.m.) for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event in Carson City at Carson High School.

Friday, July 20, 2012 - The Millennium Bugs will play from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at a memorial service "happy hour" at Merrill Gardens in Gardnerville.

Wednesday, July 25, 2012 - The Millennium Bugs will play from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Lazy 5 Regional Park, 7100 Pyramid Way, Sparks. I will be performing on piano and trombone. This is a free event, open to the public. It is part of the 8-week long 7th Annual Summer Music Series presented by the Washoe County Department of Regional Parks and Open Space. The concerts are outside in the lovely outdoor setting of the park. The concerts are family oriented and free to the public. Last year the parks department averaged 800 audience members per concert.

Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival - 2012

August is Jazz Month in Carson City

The summer sizzles as Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses, and jazz lovers proudly continue the annual August jazz festival started in 2004. Performances will be held at multiple venues in Carson City, and will feature many musicians in several bands. Events are scheduled between August 3 and August 19 (inclusive). Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 - The Millennium Bugs perform from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. for the Carson City Historical Society's annual Ice Cream Social at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum. Other events at the museum start before 6:00 p.m. This is part of the "Jazz & Beyond" Carson City Music Festival.

Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 - I perform on piano with Two Plus at a brunch from 11:00 to 1:00 at Carson Mall. This is part of the "Jazz & Beyond" Carson City Music Festival.

Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012 - The Millennium Bugs perform from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. in Comma Courtyard. On this particular "second Tuesday" the Millennium Bugs are substituting for the Mile High Jazz Band, which will be performing four days later just up the block. This is part of the "Jazz & Beyond" Carson City Music Festival.

Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012 - Mile High Jazz Band on the Third Street Stage in Carson City from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. This is a "Jazz & Poetry" event, and the theme is "Animals." Our guest vocal soloist is Jakki Ford. Admission is free. This is part of the "Jazz & Beyond" Carson City Music Festival.

Sat., Aug. 25, 2012 - I perform on bass trombone with Rosebud's Dance Band at Dangberg Home Ranch Park, from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. in a fundraiser event.

Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 - I will be playing piano and trombone with The Millennium Bugs for the Espil-Champeau wedding reception at The Grove at South Creek in Reno, 3:45 to 8:00 p.m.

 

October 2012


Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 - I play tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra in a concert that starts at 7:00 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden, Nev.

Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - New time: 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony in a 4:00 p.m. concert at the Carson City Community Center with piano soloist Carl Petersson playing Grieg Piano Concerto. Two other Scandinavian works will be on the program. Also on the program is a performance of my composition for jazz quintet and orchestra, "It's About Time: Styles for Jazz Combo & Orchestra," featuring Tom Stryker on harmonica, Dan Lancaster on reeds, John Shipley on piano, George Worth on bass, and Lee Warner on drums.

Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 - The Zephyrus Brass Quintet, with me on tuba, perform for the funeral of our dear friend Rolf Johnson at St. Paul's Lutheran Family, Carson City, NV. Per Rolf's request, I arranged "The Navy Hymn" and "How Great Thou Art" for the quintet, which we performed as part of the ceremony. I also performed on keyboard for the post-funeral reception at the Brewery Arts Center.

Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 (Nevada Day) - The Mile High Jazz Band performs for a USO-style "Battle Born Days" dance at the Carson Nugget, 7:00-10:00 p.m.

 

November 2012


Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 - I conduct the Ruby Mountain Symphony in Elko, Nev. The Symphony is celebrating its 25 anniversary, and in its honor I composed a work called "Ruby Mountain Reflections" which will be premiered on the concert. Valerie Gleeson will also conduct a work on the concert.

Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee - New time: 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

 

December 2012


Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 - I perform in and MC the TUBACHRISTMAS performance at the Wilbur D. May Museum at Rancho San Rafael Park, 1595 N. Sierra St., Reno, NV. Registration is at 12:30 p.m. Rehearsal starts at 1:00 p.m. Free concert (open to the public) begins at 3:00 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 - I conduct the Carson City Symphony in a 4:00 p.m. Holiday Treat concert at the Carson City Community Center.

Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 - Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee performs "Jazz & Poetry: Just Desserts" - 7:30-9:30 p.m. Admission: $5 admission, FREE age 18 and under.

Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 - I play with a jazz combo for the Ron Woods Family Resource Center's holiday food drive in front of the Governor's Mansion in Carson City. The group plays from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 - I play tuba with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra in a "Winter Concert" that starts at 7:00 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden, Nev.

Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 - 10:00 a.m. - I play elecric bass on the Christmas Carol Playalong at Carson Mall. Come and listen or come and play. To play, call 775-450-5584.

Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 - I play piano with Rosebud's Dance Band at 8:30 p.m. at Saint Gall's Catholic Church in Gardnerville. This is a New Year's Eve event put on by the Knights of Columbus.
